The Ministries of St. Catherine's

The many ministries of St. Catherine's are organized under the five types (or commissions) outlined for us by St. Paul in Ephesians. We pray that each member of our parish will find the special ministry that he or she is called to do. The commissions generally meet on Wednesday evenings.

Service/Outreach Commission

The Service Commission organizes and plans all of St. Catherine's outreach to the Temple Terrace community and beyond. This includes hands-on activities, where parishioners actually get involved working with organizations, as well as financial support for charitable organizations. The Vestry has voted to support Outreach at a level of 20% of St. Catherine's disposable income for 2009.

The Commission meets on the first Wednesday of the month, at 7 PM. Members meet to determine allocation of funds, and to plan for various outreach events, throughout the year. New members are welcome. If you have some ideas as to organizations that could use our help, please come and help the Service Commission to plan for the coming year. Juana Delgado Miller and Wally Williams act as Vestry Liaisons. Tony Pientka is the Commission Chair. Among the many groups we have supported this year are:

Good Samaritan Mission
(Terry Bechtel)
The Good Samaritan Mission helps migrants in the Balm and Wimauma areas. St. Catherine's adopted three families at Christmas, providing gifts for each family member, as well as food, clothing, and blankets. Several other times during the year, Fr. Rich and members of the Commission take food and clothing to the Mission.

Christmas Stockings for the Salvation Army
(Juana West & Jeanne Willis)
Each fall, members of St. Catherine's take stockings and return them to church overflowing with gifts for needy children. This year, more than 280 stockings were filled.

St. Vincent de Paul Society
(Ann Rezabek)
The St. Vincent de Paul Society, located at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, provides food and other necessities to needy people in and around the Temple Terrace area. Each Sunday, parishioners bring food, which is donated to the food bank. If you would like to participate, ask Wally Williams or Ann Rezabek about what types of food are needed, and then just add those items to your weekly shopping list. Food may be placed in the grocery cart located in the narthex (entryway) of the church. Each week, a volunteer delivers the food to the food bank.
The Dominican Republic
(Patty Robinson)
The Dominican Republic is a Diocesan project. St. Catherine's has sent money to support the mission. The Diocese sends several teams down each year to help build needed buildings for a local church, school, and day care center. St. Catherine's is sending four parishioners this year. They will be going the last week in June. People interested in going down with a team should contact Patty Robinson or the Diocesan Outreach Office, for more information
