St. Catherine's Worship Commission

S.W.E.E.P.
The Ministries of St. Catherine's

The many ministries of St. Catherine's are organized under the five types (or commissions) outlined for us by St. Paul in Ephesians. We pray that each member of our parish will find the special ministry that he or she is called to do. The commissions generally meet on Wednesday evenings.

Worship Commission

The Worship Commission meets to advise Fr. Rich, as well as lay worship leaders, in their work of providing Worship services for the people of St. Catherine's. Membership is open to interested people of the congregation. The Commission also oversees the budget for worship.

Wally Williams acts as Vestry liaison, and the various groups who serve at Worship services are represented. The Chairperson this year is Norris Johnson. Meetings are held at church, on the first Wednesday evening of each month, at 6:30 PM.

The following groups are part of the Worship Commission. People interested in participating in these groups are encouraged to contact the person noted below, for more information.

Acolytes
(David Butler)

Young people (10 and older) and adults assist at worship. Acolytes carry the processional cross and candles, and assist in the preparation of the Altar for Communion. They also assist the Priest in various other ways during Worship. Acolytes meet for training several times a year and for other activities.

Altar Guild
(Rivers Tyler)

The members of the Altar Guild work in small groups to prepare the church for all regular worship services, in addition to any special services, such as weddings or funerals. They care for the altar linens and utensils, as well as change the banners and colored hangings, according to the season of the year. They are also responsible for posting the hymn numbers for Sunday services. Groups serve for one week at a time, about once a month. In addition, the Altar Guild meets several times a year, to plan for each season.

The Adult Choir provides music leadership at the 10 AM service on Sundays. (September through Pentecost Sunday) Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9 PM, and on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM. In addition, the choir may participate in some special services. The Adult Choir sings primarily traditional church music.

Spirit Choir
(Norris Johnson)

The Spirit Choir will sing at the 10 AM service on occasion, during the year. Special rehearsals will be arranged before the Sundays they sing.

Assisting Ministers
(Cathy Guerard)

Lay Eucharistic Ministers read the lessons, lead the psalm, and distribute communion. These people must be licensed by the Diocese (after a day of training). Lectors read the Prayers of the People or the lessons, they receive training, but do not need to be licensed.

Lay Eucharistic Visitors
(Wilma Wiggins)

Lay Eucharistic Visitors visit the homebound and the ill who are unable to come to church on Sunday. The LEVs share the message of the readings and the sermon and distribute communion. Lay Eucharistic Visitors must be licensed by the Diocese (after a day of training).

Ushers
(Wallace Williams)

The Ushers greet people as they arrive for Sunday services (or other services with large attendance), give them a bulletin, and guide them as needed for seating. They pass the offering plate and guide people as they come to the Altar for communion. After church, they straighten up by removing any loose bulletins and returning hymnals and prayer books to their places.
