MUSIC

CHOIR

St. Catherine’s has been blessed by its proximity to the University of South Florida.  The contributions from the University’s music faculty and graduate students have enriched the Church’s worship services for several decades.
St. Catherine’s choir has continued to grow both in size and the richness of its musical offerings. The choir’s volunteer membership ranges from sixteen to twenty five adults.

The current Director of Music, Dr. John Carmichael, is the nationally and internationally recognized Director of Bands at the University of South Florida. Together with his wife, Alisa Carmichael, the Church’s organist, they have brought St. Catherine’s worship services to a new level.

St. Catherine’s has also served as the rehearsal facility for the Tampa Bay Children’s Chorus directed by Dr. Averill Summer, a parishioner, for several decades.  TBCC has performed at Carnegie Hall and at international music festivals.

SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS

The Church’s School of Fine Arts was started five years ago as a venue for graduate students at USF to teach piano, voice, other instruments and art to children and adults at reasonable fees.  It began with one teacher and several students and has grown to seven teachers and more than sixty students.  Click on the logo below to visit the SoFA website.

ORGAN

St. Catherine's organ was built by the Robert L. Sipe Company of Dallas, Texas, and was dedicated on January 26, 2003. It is a two-manual, 19-rank organ with 32 stops.  It serves as a symbol of St. Catherine’s musical outreach efforts ensuring that children in the community are exposed to the arts

Mr. Sipe is one of the foremost designers of pipe organs in America and has created and installed organs in many notable locations, including Luther College, and the Mormon Assembly Hall in Salt Lake City.
